M9 – The most innovative multimedia museum in Italy

M9 is the largest and most innovative multimedia museum in Italy, dedicated to the history of the 20th century. The route crosses 8 themes, from the territory to work, from technology to demography, from culture to politics.

The museum structure is part of an urban regeneration project. A small smart city, on an area of 10,000 square meters, with renovations, retail areas and other services, a replicable and sustainable model.

On the ground floor there is an innovative auditorium, the first in Europe with 200 Oculus Virtual Reality Headset.

The opening event was attended by high institutional officials (among others, the President of the Senate and the Minister of Cultural Heritage), the media and Italian cultural operators. Fondazione di Venezia with M9 gives the city, the country, the world a museum of the nation so that Italians know the twentieth century, the one that has most contributed to creating their current identity, in the belief that historical knowledge is the essential basis for planning the future.

Landscape section, developed by Carraro Lab

Carraro LAB has curated the section dedicated to the transformation of urban and agricultural landscapes of the 20th century, with 15 interactive installations, realized with immersive shooting of the territories, 3D reconstructions, interactive compositing and morphing. Among these:

  • The space-time elevator, which allows you to virtually rise on Mestre, the Lagoon and the Po Delta and observe them in their historical evolution, from land reclamation to bombing.
  • The introductory room, which recalls a control room, with large projections on the shock of the '900 and the megalopolis of the Po Valley. The images of the projections are deepened with a virtual reality application with 360 videos and 9 interactive tablets.
  • The “intruder" game, made with virtual periscopes, dedicated to the elements that transformed the landscape in the twentieth century, from telecommunications antennas to alien species
  • The Oculus game aimed at discovering the key words of the transformations of the 20th century, from the Messina earthquake to the demolition of Mussolini, from reforestation to industrial conversion.
  • The installation of "postcards" which recalls, with vintage images and video cards, the path of modification of the landscape of the Italian plains, hills and mountains.
  • Sim Italy, an interactive installation dedicated to infrastructures and protected natural areas
  • Other installations, dedicated to the history of environmentalism, to the fight against malaria, to agricultural techniques and reclamation techniques, to earthquakes and their devastating effects, to the Italian landscape filmed in the historical films of the 1000 miles and the Giro d'Italia, to the urban development of 10 cities developed with a zenith projection.
